I put 20 poke berries into a jar with one cup of apple cider vinegar smash them all up and pour through a strainer to catch all the seeds. Now you have your juice of the berries in the apple cider vinegar pour one cup of organic honey into the juice store in the fridge and take 1 tsp when you are sick it is an amazing herb for wellness. You should always put just a small amount on the inside of your wrist for 15 minutes or so to make sure you are not allergic to the herb. Do this test for all herbs before using them. We harvest the leaves only, cook it and dump the water three times. It's is Absolutely delicious. We leave it growing in our yard but cut back all the flowers to prevent "berries." Kids, birds, and raccoons will eat them and nobody wants that!

I live in SE Georgia, USA and I have two of these growing near my house. Today, I took a look at the larger one, which now is over 7 feet tall, and it's only June, 8th! I'm going to leave it alone to see how tall it will grow, and let the birds have their fill of the berries.

As far as I know, that part of the experiment where you mentioned about the auxotrophoc features, is attributed to Joshua Lederberg and Edward Tatum. When they mixed those two strains and yielded prototroph bacteria so the fact of combination in bacteria was approved.
